Starting your own business and picking the right niche in no time

Does This Event Cost Anything To Attend?

Absolutely nothing! We do not charge for any passes or tickets to the event. We will be providing food and spaces to work in for the entirety of the event!

What is a hackathon?

A hackathon is often a multi-day event where people like you come together to build out their ideas using the latest technology at their disposal.

Who Can Attend?

Anyone from the community! Students, working professionals, and anyone from around the world are welcome to apply to attend.

When Should I Plan To Come To The Event And Leave?

Plan to come to the El Paso Community Foundation in the evening Friday January 31st and depart early afternoon on Sunday February 2nd.

Is Parking Free?

Unfortunately not, but there are plenty of options around the downtown area.

What If I Don’t Have A Team?

That’s totally okay! If you don’t have one prior to attending, we want to help you get on a team for the event! Before hacking starts, we’ll host a team-building session where you can network and see what ideas other participants have.

What are the team sizes?

We are capping teams at 5 people per a team. This is to ensure teams aren’t too large and we ensure everyone can have a significant role in collaborating.

How much can our hack be done before the hackathon?

None! However, having sketches or ideas are highly encouraged! Please make sure you didn’t come with any code or prototypes (hardware and software). Make sure your hack only includes code, functions, parts, materials, etc… that are built during the hackathon. However, you are free to use any publicly available open source library or code repo to incorporate in your hack (like an API).

What Should I Bring To The Event?

Bring your computer, any external peripherals you may need (chargers, monitors, etc.), any other hardware that you definitely plan on using, and an open mind.

What Is The Difference Between Mentors And Volunteers?

General volunteers help out with logistics during the event such as check in, clean up, food distribution, and other tasks that make El Paso Strong Hackathon possible! Mentors assist teams with their projects when stuck. They'll be floating around the hacking space helping teams with any questions they might have, especially technical questions in a domain the mentor is familiar with.

What Rules Do We Have To Follow At The Hackathon?

We are committed to providing a safe and comfortable environment and harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, ability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, political views, previous hackathon attendance, computing experience, chosen programming language or tech stack.
